Dinosaurs dominated the Earth, totally or partially, for at least 160 million years before the K-T (Cretaceous–Tertiary) extinction event, which saw the disappearance of the giant lizards. The earliest of these animals were small, two-legged creatures, but some of their predecessors grew to enormous sizes, and walked on all fours. How these immense herbivores, known as sauropods, evolved was still a mystery until recently, when a newly-discovered fossil threw a new light on the links between the early and late dinosaurs, the BBC News reports.
The new skeleton, which is of a creature that walked on two legs, but could walk on all fours as well, is remarkably well preserved, and it allowed scientists to determine that it represents the missing link between the two types or reptiles. Details of the amazing discovery have been published in the latest issue of the respected scientific journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B. The fossils were unearthed at a location in the Senekal… (Read the rest of this article at the following article source link for the full story)
According to a communication professor at the University of Texas in Austin (UTA), people’s representations in online worlds and computer games – known as their avatars – can exert a strong, negative influence on their owner’s behavior, even if they are just virtual characters. In digital technologies, avatars are oftentimes considered to inconsequential, and not much thought has been given to this idea. This is among the first studies to look at the effects of these representations on an actual person, ScienceDaily reports.
“When you step into a virtual environment, you can potentially become ‘Mario’ or whatever other character you are portraying. Oftentimes, the connotations of our own virtual character will subtly remind us of common stereotypes, such as ‘bad guys wear black or dress up in hooded robes.’ This association may surreptitiously steer users to think and behave more antisocially, but also inhibit more pro-social thoughts and responses in a virtual environment,” says… (Read the rest of this article at the following article source link for the full story)
Over the past few years, actual telephone calls or e-mail accounts have been rendered obsolete by the advent of the SMS (Short Message Service). This has been most visibly reflected in the preferences of young people today. Polls indicate that most people under the age of 21 now use messages to stay in touch, rather than call each other, send e-mails, or talk in written letters. However, this habit of constantly typing may be putting the young ones at risk of overuse injuries, which have thus far remained the thing of older citizens, who spend many years in front of a computer, for example.
The greatest concern, ergonomics researchers say, is the fact that youth today does not have the best possible position of their hands when using the cell phone to type messages. In fact, it can become very uncomfortable at times, and children continue to do the same thing day after day. There are several recorded cases in which parents have discovered – through their telephone bills – that… (Read the rest of this article at the following article source link for the full story)

Nokia 5230 is yet another music-oriented mobile phone from Nokia which is now said to be heading towards wireless carrier T-Mobile in the United States. The handset was seen a few weeks ago in a series of live images, and now it was spotted passing through the FCC courtyard, while sporting support for AWS 3G bands. Since T-Mobile is the only carrier to use those bands, the specs suggest that it will also be the only carrier to have the new Nokia phone added to its offering.
Even if this is only a rumor about this 3G-capable mobile phone heading towards T-mobile’s lineup, it seems to be a rather solid one. According to the guys over at cellphonehits, the fact that this handset is the Nokia 5230 is suggested by the battery it comes around with (BL-5J, only present with Nokia’s 5800, 5230, N900 and X6 handsets) and by the label localization drawing, which matches only the handset in question.
Additionally, the news site also came up with a long list of specifications for the… (Read the rest of this article at the following article source link for the full story)
I confess to getting through Baldur’s Gate II five times, three with the Throne of Baal expansion installed. And min maxing became second nature. I looked at character classes, racial abilities, and possible development paths thinking about how powerful character might become at some point in the future. I chose outcomes for quests based upon possible reward. And the sickness of powergaming got only worse after the first play was through, mostly because of the knowledge gained about the game and because of the slightly set in stone structure experience of BioWare role playing games of old.
Dragon Age: Origins seems to have taken quite a few steps to actually avoid players blitzing through, looking only for gameplay advantages. The new setting, complete with new development paths and new leveling up mechanism, needs to be learned and most players will be a bit clueless the first time around. The wide array of characters and the four member party will mean that most of the weaknesses… (Read the rest of this article at the following article source link for the full story)
