Website: http://www.2dayplaza.com/weekend-reading-batman-and-the-lure…

I like playing Batman: Arkham Asylum. It manages to blend intense action, some stealth elements and elements of adventure games in a coherent way while also staying true to what Batman, his nemesis and the Arkham location mean in the universe of comics.

Rocksteady has delivered a solid game with easy-to-understand controls, fluid combat, nice grappling movement and challenging boss fights. The only thing I hate about Batman: Arkham Asylum is the amount of collectibles it puts in the patch of the player, from Riddler signs to audiotapes detailing the treatment attempted for major villains in the universe of the game and to the signs that show the history of Arkham itself.

Like many other gamers, I’m a bit of a masochist and compulsive when it comes to collecting stuff. I went after all the weird weapon pieces that can be put together as far back as Baldur’s Gate II. I was obsessing after Gold Coins as far back as my first Mario experience with the SEGA Mega Drive. I was very concerned… (Read the rest of this article at the following article source link for the full story)

Website: http://www.2dayplaza.com/julian-hakes%E2%80%99-mojito-shoe-t…

Household designers are constantly working on ideas to further make shoes more visually appealing, adding to them anything from straps and spikes to feathers and rhinestones. In doing so, they’re looking at footwear from the outside in, whereas British architect Julian Hakes is doing it the other way around. Because of this, the Mojito, Hakes’ design, looks stunning, but without giving up on comfort, he says for the Daily Mail.

Hakes is an architect and, because of this, when he first set out to design a pair of shoes, he looked at the way the foot moved when walking and which were the points on which the most pressure was applied. Of course, those are the heel and the ball of the foot, which has driven him to the conclusion that a foot plate for a shoe is not necessary. Consequently, he took that out – and the result is this piece of futuristic, minimalist, funky-looking material, the Mojito shoe.

The Mojito is called like that because it resembles the twisted piece of lime… (Read the rest of this article at the following article source link for the full story)

Website: http://www.2dayplaza.com/internet-explorer-use-plummets-in-s…

September saw a number of interesting shifts in the browser market with IE plummeting to 65.7 percent, its lowest percentage since Netscape was still a viable option, dropping 1.3 percent in just one month. The decline is also one of the biggest drops in over a year. Meanwhile, Firefox had one of the best months in recent history and Google Chrome saw strong growth considering its very small market share, according to data gathered by Computer World.

Microsoft’s Internet Explorer has been on a downward spiral for many months now and lost 8.5 percent market share in the past year alone. Moreover, the trend seems to be accelerating with a 2.6 percent drop in the past three months and now with significant 1.3 percent dip in September. The browser still enjoys a significant lead and its 65.7 percent combined market share is almost three times bigger than its closest follower Mozilla Firefox. Still, if the trend does continue, Firefox may become a viable contender for the first place… (Read the rest of this article at the following article source link for the full story)

Website: http://www.2dayplaza.com/nokia-n900-to-come-in-late-october….

Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia announced not too long ago the release of its first handset running under the Linux-based Maemo 5 platform, the Nokia N900, and it seems that it might push the device on the market by the end of October, the latest news around the Internet suggests. One of the main features of the fresh handheld would be its Internet capability, enhanced by the presence of Nokia’s Maemo operating system.

According to a recent article on gsmhelpdesk, the Nokia N900 is set to make an appearance on the market at the end of October, while featuring a price tag of €599. The high-end N900, which comes as a device placed somewhere between a tablet PC and a smartphone, comes with a wide range of capabilities, and is expected to see a lot of traction on the market, although its price might be as high as stated above.

At the core of N900 lies an ARM 600 MHz processor, which enables the device to deliver multi-tasking functionalities to users. At the same time, the OS also… (Read the rest of this article at the following article source link for the full story)

Website: http://www.2dayplaza.com/student-develops-innovative-rocket-…

James Arkwright, from Morecambe, in Lancashire, the UK, has just secured his place in a prestigious international space competition, as he developed a rocket motor that can be fired safely, and observed from close range. The 25-year-old developed the educational tool as part of his university degree, and is now being asked to present his device in front of world-class scientists, at the International Astronautical Congress, to be held later this month in South Korea, AlphaGalileo reports.

The new motor is only half a meter tall, and is also portable. James developed it after studying aerospace engineering and astronautics for the past five years, at the Kingston University, in South West London. Experts believe that the instrument could be successfully used as an educational tool, to help students, academics and researchers in their quest for obtaining a deeper understanding of the mechanics involved in constructing a rocket.

Made entirely out of the carbon compound graphite, steel… (Read the rest of this article at the following article source link for the full story)

Website: http://www.2dayplaza.com/google-introduces-youtube-promoted-…

Google is launching an interesting new ad unit that will incorporate promoted videos from YouTube. The fresh AdSense ad units will run along text and display ads and will compete with them in the automated ad auctions. Google already offers a form of video ads through its AdSense program but the new product won’t replace them as the two are actually rather different.

“Promoted Videos are YouTube videos - from movie trailers to product demos to really almost any kind of video on YouTube - promoted by their creators so they can reach a wider audience. (You may have already noticed Promoted Videos on YouTube.com, as they appear on partner watch pages and alongside YouTube search results.),” Arlene Lee from the Inside AdSense team wrote.

“Extending Promoted Videos to AdSense sites will enable these content producers to broaden their reach, while providing you with another way to earn from your ad space. At this time, these ads are only available in English to US publishers, but we’re… (Read the rest of this article at the following article source link for the full story)

Website: http://www.2dayplaza.com/boosting-beta-waves-makes-people-mo…

Experts at the University College London (UCL), in the United Kingdom were following a recent study able to conclude that brain waves have a significant influence on human behavior. In a series of tests, they attached a number of electrodes on volunteers’ heads, and then ran a small alternating current through them. In a paper detailing the experiments, published in the latest issue of the journal Cell Biology, the team reveals that such research could unlock new avenues of research for curing movement disorders, such as Parkinson’s.

In such diseases, patients have a difficult time making voluntary movements, but the British team says that they managed to generate normal brain activity patterns in test subjects. “We induced the same patterns as you see in normal brains via electrodes,” explains UCL professor Peter Brown, who was also the lead author of the journal entry. His work was focused on learning how to boost the activity of a specific type of brain wave, called the beta… (Read the rest of this article at the following article source link for the full story)

Website: http://www.2dayplaza.com/palm-releases-webos-1-2-1-to-fix-it…

It didn’t take too long before Palm came back with a software update for its webOS mobile operating system running on Palm Pre to enable the handset to connect back with Apple’s iTunes. Although USB-IF said that Palm should be careful with the way in which it uses Apple’s vendor ID to enable the iTunes syncing, it seems that the Sunnyvale-based mobile phone maker decided to re-enter the cat-and-mouse game it has been playing with Apple during the past four months or so.

The company has just released the webOS 1.2.1 update for all Palm Pres available on the market, and, beside other changes and fixes it brings along, the release note also clearly states, “Resolves an issue preventing media sync from working with latest version of iTunes (9.0.1).” Since the game is back on, although one would have expected for Palm to lay low, especially since webOS 1.2.0 didn’t “fix the iTunes issue,” it remains to be seen how Apple will respond, and what other forums will have to say about it.

In… (Read the rest of this article at the following article source link for the full story)

Website: http://www.2dayplaza.com/cloudera-desktop-a-new-hadoop-manag…

Cloudera, the startup that bills itself as the commercial Hadoop company, has announced the launch of Cloudera Desktop, a tool set to manage Hadoop installations through a graphical user interface. It is designed to lower the bar allowing novice developers or even users with no development experience to access the data stored in a Hadoop cloud.

“At Cloudera, we’re focused on making Hadoop easy to install, configure, manage, and use for all organizations. While there exist many utilities for developers who work with Hadoop, Cloudera Desktop is targeting beginning developers and non-developers in an organization who’d like to get value from the data stored in their Hadoop cluster. By working within a web browser, users avoid the tedious client installation and upgrade cycle, and system administrators avoid custom firewall configurations,” the company announced.

The app is still in beta but has several tools to make it easier to handle certain tasks. The Cloudera Desktop includes a… (Read the rest of this article at the following article source link for the full story)
